D8T: START NOW, SCALE UP WHEN YOU’RE READY
There’s a lot to like about the D8T, but one of its best features is something called scalable technology. What does that mean, anyway?
Scalability describes a system’s capacity to handle a growing amount of work or its potential to change to accommodate growth. In the case of the D8T, equipment owners can choose from a variety of scalable guidance and control technologies—ranging from simple systems that show operators where to cut and fill to complex technologies that control the blade automatically.
Start with the basics
Cat® Slope Indicate is the most basic technology offering. It’s a standard feature that displays a visual of tractor and blade positioning on a screen in the cab. This simple assistance technology guides the operator, improving speed and accuracy on slopes.
Cat Grade with Slope Assist is a step up from there. It’s an optional 2D system that automatically maintains blade slope for faster dozing with less effort. Because it’s 2D, no extra hardware or infrastructure is needed. The system is accurate to ± 1 percent.
For even higher accuracy, there’s Cat AccuGrade™, a dealer-installed system available in 2D and 3D. It’s portable technology, so it can be used on different machines. And it’s offered in several configurations:
- AccuGrade Laser has 2D capabilities, making it ideal for dozing flat planes or slopes to an accuracy of 1/8 inch.
- AccuGrade GNSS and AccuGrade UTS are 3D systems, so they can be used on complex curves and contours. Each requires a digital site plan and infrastructure investment. They are accurate to 1/10 inch and 1/8 inch, respectively.
The factory option
When a factory-integrated system is preferred, Cat Grade with 3D fits the bill. It’s comparable in accuracy to AccuGrade GNSS (1/10 inch) and requires the extra investment in infrastructure.
Making a choice
With so many options available, things can get confusing. That’s where Cat dealers come in. They’ll talk with you about job requirements, site conditions, application issues, budget and more. Together you can decide the level of technology that’s best for your D8T now, knowing it’s always possible to scale up in the future. Learn more here.
