Weapons & Work Tools: Pick The Right ONE for the Fight
Whether you’re building the world or saving it, you need the right tools for the job. In the movies, heroes need the right weapons to win the battle. On the jobsite, contractors need the right tools to get the work done. Ready to meet any challenge—it’s one thing Caterpillar and TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT have in common.
The tools it takes to defend the planet keep getting bigger and better.
One thing fans and critics have agreed on since the 2007 release of TRANSFOMERS is that Michael Bay’s movies continue to deliver more action and excitement. And, something movie goers have come to count on is Optimus Prime’s ability to rise to each new challenge. Like all heroes, Optimus Prime not only has conviction on his side, but he consistently wields mighty weapons to defeat the enemy.
Throughout the five films, we have seen Optimus with an ion blaster, barrage cannons, energon blades as hands, engines, a plasma cannon, a machine gun and a sword. Optimus’ size and agility are precisely matched to each added fighting tool.
Other weapons that appear in the films are also well-matched to the characters that use them. For example, strong, sure Bumblebee packs a powerful wallop with the plasma cannon on his arm. Ironhide is all about rapid-fire action with machine guns, plasma cannons and a Gatlin missile launcher. The smaller, more streamlined Jazz is equipped with a compact, but powerful crescent cannon.
As each challenge arises, abilities and arsenals continue to grow. And, as we learn in TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT, the battles on Earth have been going on for centuries.
Caterpillar continues to improve the tools it takes to build a better world.
Just as filmmakers work to build the best experiences for their audiences, Caterpillar is constantly working to improve the performance of the equipment and tools we build for our customers. Excavators are the most versatile machines because they work with a variety of tools specifically designed to take on the toughest materials on the planet.
While Cat® Work Tools aren’t powered by an ancient source like the Allspark in TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT, they run on some sophisticated human ingenuity—hydraulics.
The physics work like this: A liquid like hydraulic oil can’t be compressed. So when it’s forced through something small like an excavator’s hoses and pipes, it creates pressure. That pressure, or mechanical force, drives movement. And that’s what makes it possible for a Cat bucket to carry immense loads, or a Cat demolition shear to cut right through steel, or a Cat ripper to tear through brutally hard material. With the right tools, a jobsite can be very action-packed.
Hydraulics also make switching between digging, grabbing and tearing tools fast and easy. Cat Excavators can be equipped with hydraulically-activated quick couplers, which let the operator change attachments without leaving the cab.
